  1. 2022-2023 Graduate Student and Outstanding Mentor Awards

Faculty and/or academic departments and programs may submit nominations for outstanding theses and dissertations; excellence in teaching or service; graduate student of the year; and outstanding interdisciplinary students. These nominations are due by January 20, 2023. In addition to these nominations, each college defines its own nomination criteria and selection process for identifying one outstanding master’s and doctoral student and outstanding mentor per college — notification of these winners are due by February 10. All winners will be recognized by the Graduate School during Graduate Education Week 2023, March 27-31. Visit https://graduateschool.vt.edu/about/awards/student.html to learn more about the process and timeline. Contact us at 540-231-9561 with questions.

2. Update on F-1 International Students and Online Coursework for Spring 2023               Students who started their academic program at VT summer 2020 or later are required to follow (regular) F-1 immigration enrollment regulations. Full-time enrollment requirements are a minimum of:                                                                                                                                                            *9 credit hours for graduate students without an assistantship – must enroll in at least 6 in-person/hybrid credits

*12 credit hours for graduate student with an assistantship – must enroll in at least 6 in-person/hybrid credits

*Students in their final semester must have at least one in-person/hybrid class. For students with only one class remaining, the final class must be in-person/hybrid. Per immigration regulations, it cannot be a virtual/online class.

*Research hours and SSDE are considered in-person for immigration purposes.

Students who started their academic program at VT before March 2020 still have a waiver of regular F-1 immigration enrollment regulations. This means those students may enroll in any combination of in-person, online, and/or hybrid courses (including 100% online), as long as they remain enrolled in a full-time course of study.

All F-1 students at VT received an email from Cranwell International Center about the spring 2023 enrollment requirements. If you have questions, please feel to reach out to us at international@vt.edu.
