  1. Immigration Check-In

New international students need to complete the Pre-Arrival Immigration Orientation on Canvas and submit the Immigration Check-In e-form through IntlHokies (online immigration services portal for international students). In-person check-in is not required.   If students have an assistantship, they will also need to submit the Social Security Number Letter Request e-form through IntlHokies. If you have questions, please contact Cranwell International Center at international@vt.edu or 1- 6527.

  1. Late Arrival Arrangements for International Students

International students who are unable to arrive in the U.S. by August 14 (the start date listed on all students I-20 immigration documents), should contact Cranwell International Center to request updated immigration documents. The latest new international students may arrive in the U.S. to begin studies for fall 2023 is August 25*.  After this date, students will need to defer their admission to spring 2024 or fall 2024.

*Exception: Iranian students and other students in administrative processing.  If you have questions, please contact Cranwell International Center at international@vt.edu or 1- 6527.

Please note that students may not begin working on assistantship duties while outside the United States.

  1. Information on Graduate Application, Admissions Process

In accordance with the Supreme Court’s recent decision that applies to undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs, an applicant’s race will no longer be visible to or considered by those making graduate admissions decisions. Therefore, the race and ethnicity fields have been removed from view in Slate Reader, Queries, and Reports. Mailings to prospective students and applicants that relied upon race and/or ethnicity fields have been stopped and the recipient lists updated to remove those fields. The Graduate School remains committed to the holistic application review process we have employed since 2017.
