  1. Call for Nominations for Graduate Alumni Achievement Award

Deadline: Friday, October 28, 2022

The Graduate School invites nominations for the Graduate Alumni Achievement Award to recognize outstanding national and/or international achievement and exemplary contributions of graduate alumni to their profession, discipline, community or society. Nominees’ professional activities and history must reflect positively on the reputation of Virginia Tech to a national and/or international audience. Only alumni who have obtained a graduate degree from Virginia Tech are eligible. Submission deadline is October 28, 2022. For more information on nomination requirements and to submit a nomination, visit: https://graduateschool.vt.edu/about/awards/alumni.html.

  1. GPD/GPC New Webpage Guide

In order to assist newly appointed Graduate Program Directors and Graduate Coordinators, we compiled a list of systems and resources that can be helpful or necessary in these roles. You can review the list of resources and learn how to gain access to them at https://graduateschool.vt.edu/faculty-and-staff-resources/GPD-GCguide.html. We will continue to expand this compilation with additional topics and resources and welcome your suggestions that you may submit by completing this short survey: https://forms.gle/EGDRtfcuprR89pvj9.

  1. Effective Dates of the Inclusion and Diversity Requirement

The Graduate School has now included the effective date for each graduate program’s plan to help ensure that the execution of the policy is consistent based on the plan approval. That information is located at https://graduateschool.vt.edu/academics/programs/inclusion-diversity-req.html.  If you have any questions, please email Shernita@vt.edu.

  1. Application Fee Waivers

The Graduate School offers fee waivers for participation on a limited number of qualifying events. We do not offer waivers for financial hardship.

https://graduateschool.vt.edu/admissions/tuition-and-costs/Application_Fees.html

Should the department wish to cover the fee for applicants that do not qualify for one of our waivers, they can request a fee waiver in Slate. Departments can request one of two types of waivers, continuous use or single use.

Continuous use is a code the department can request to use that is good for one year. Departments use these if they have a larger number of individuals they wish to give a waiver code to, maybe those affiliated with an info session, open house, recruitment fair, conference attendee, etc.

Slate form to request: https://applyto.graduateschool.vt.edu/manage/form/form?id=221af3cf-0fd7-43c4-b214-bc41bec8812b

Single use is where the department requests to waive the fee for a single applicant.

For each fee waiver used, our Finance team will bill the department quarterly and the invoice paid through HokieMart.
