Graduate School Summer Hours

Starting Monday, May 19, the Graduate School’s Blacksburg offices in the GLC will operate with summer hours, opening at 9:00am each day and closing at 4:00pm. The summer schedule will be in effect through Friday, Aug 1. Regular business hours (8-5) will resume on Aug 4. When the Graduate School is open but the GLC is closed, visitors may access Graduate School offices through the entrance door facing Squires Student Center.

The Graduate Life Center remains accessible 24/7 to all graduate students with a valid Hokie Passport. A secure drop box is available for form submissions immediately outside GLC 120.

Graduate Commencement Ceremony (Blacksburg)

The Graduate School invites all graduating graduate students and their friends and families to its spring commencement ceremony. The event will be streamed live on VT’s website. Doctoral candidates and their hooding professors should report to the Spring Road side of Cassell Coliseum to check in between 10:30-11:30am. Master’s, education specialist and certificate candidates should report to Cassell Coliseum between 10:30-11:30am and follow the signage to the check-in location in Gym 213.

Graduate Education Week 2014, March 24-28

Graduate students and members of the Virginia Tech community are invited to participate in Graduate Education Week events from March 24 through March 28. Workshops, luncheons, award ceremonies, research symposium, student contests, photo and art display, and a variety of other events mark the 14th annual Graduate Education Week.

Sponsored by the Graduate School and supported by departments across the university, Graduate Education Week (GEW) is celebrated annually during the last full week of March to:

  • highlight the importance of graduate education
  • increase the university community’s awareness of the contributions of graduate students to teaching, research and service
  • and enhance the graduate student experience through personal and professional development programs and social and celebratory events.

1st Thursday of each month, starting March 6, 12:00-1:00 pm, Lobby of vGLC.  Join the Graduate School Staff for online chats in the vGLC. March’s topic: Completion Guidelines. Enter  the vGLC lobby at http://virtual.glc.vt.edu. The vGLC extends VT’s graduate-education community from campus to computer. Using avatars, visitors to the vGLC can currently visit with Graduate-School staff about general academic questions; find Grad-School forms and policy information; consult with the Graduate Student Ombudsperson; attend virtual seminars and workshops; socialize with other vGLC visitors; and explore the vGLC space, which mirrors the real-world Graduate Life Center on the Blacksburg campus.

Financial Aid Advising Now Available in GLC

Graduate students with financial aid questions are invited to stop by the GLC to meet with University Scholarships and Financial Aid staff for answers. Starting February 25, 2014 for the duration of the spring semester, staff from Financial Aid will be available each Tuesday from 8:30am to 12:30pm in Room A in the GLC.  Appointment times are available from 8:30am to 10am.  Students should e-mail to finaid@vt.edu to set up an appointment. A financial aid advisor will also be available from 10:30am to 12:30pm to meet with students on a walk-in basis; no appointment is necessary.
